Mathematica 4 Wins 1999 Eddy Award

Published January 5, 2000

January 5, 2000–Mathematica 4 has been awarded the Macworld Editors’ Choice (Eddy) Award for 1999 in the category of Best Science/Engineering Software. Macworld presents the Eddy Awards annually to recognize “the products that improve the lives of Mac users–products that make using your Mac easier, let you do your job more effectively, or simply give you freedom you never had before.” Previous versions of Mathematica also won the 1989 and 1997 Editors’ Choice Awards.

To be nominated for an Eddy Award, a product must have been released in the past year and must have achieved a four-mouse or higher score in Macworld‘s product-rating system. In a review in the October issue of Macworld, Mathematica 4 received a score of five mice, the highest possible. In the award citation, Macworld said, “…in its latest upgrade–the program’s speed has been improved drastically, as have its HTML-creation, word-processing, and printing features. Add to that Mathematica‘s outstanding documentation and strong educational support, and you’ve got a powerful and approachable technical application.”
